Frequently asked questions
What is the due date for filing an income tax return?
For individuals and others whose accounts do not need an audit, the due date is generally 31 July after the end of the year. Later dates apply to cases that require an audit, and the government sometimes extends dates. We track the applicable date for each client.
Which law applies to my return now?
Income earned up to 31 March 2026 is governed by the Income-tax Act, 1961. From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies, and the "tax year" replaces the earlier "previous year" and "assessment year".
Should I choose the old regime or the new regime?
The new regime is the default and suits most people who do not claim large deductions. If you claim significant deductions such as housing loan interest or investments, the old regime may be better. We compare both before filing.
I missed the due date. Can I still file?
Yes. A belated return can be filed within the time allowed, and an updated return (ITR-U) can be filed later on payment of additional tax. Late fees and interest may apply.
My AIS shows income I did not receive. What should I do?
You can submit feedback on the AIS through the income tax portal. We review the AIS with you before filing and raise feedback where information is wrong.
